Story
Lanky's
Landing
Lost in
the Fog
Treasure
Hunt
Deep in the marshlands of the misty old bog
a solitary figure flew in from the fog.
Lanky, an egret, was coming in for a landing
and crying out for help in a voice quite demanding.

Molly the mouse ran to meet him as he landed and collapsed.
"It's all my fault!"  Lanky cried as he gasped.
"Take some deep breaths, in, out, slow and long.
Now, tell me what happened.  What could be so wrong?"  asked Molly

"It's Froggie!  He's gone!  I've looked everywhere.
He was flying on my back and then he just wasn't there."
"We have to find him.  Put together a rescue team.
Do whatever it takes no matter how hard it seems."  whined Lanky

"First we must tell our parents.  They'll know what to do.
You go tell yours and I'll tell mine too."  said Molly
"But who's going to tell Froggie's Mother and Dad?
They're going to hate me and they're going to be mad."  worried Lanky

"We'll leave that to our parents.  They'll know what to say.
Come on now let's hurry.  There's not much time left in the day."  said Molly
They both rushed off to their homes on the double
and told everyone what happened and that Froggie was in trouble.

They all met back at the hollowed out log
and planned out their search of the misty old bog.
They split up into twos to search land, sea, and air.
Then they all held hands and said a very special prayer.

That God would be with Froggie and keep him safe and sound
and help guide them in their quest until he was found.
So everyone was paired up and told where to look.
They knew Froggie must be found whatever it took.

Molly and Lanky took off and flew into the fog
hoping Froggie would hear them calling from somewhere in the bog.

But Froggie couldn't hear them calling that day
because the current had carried him far far away.
For he had fallen from Lanky's back and landed in the watery bog
and since tree frogs don't swim, he jumped onto a log.

He called out for help hoping someone would hear him
and somebody did.  Someone right near him.
A little brown toad all covered in lumps
sitting at the head of the log between two big bumps.

"Hey!  Who are you and what are you doing?
Shoo.  Go away.  Or it will be your undoing."  said the toad

"My name is Frogge and I don't mean to be rude
but I'm lost and I'm really sorry to intrude.
You see, I fell from the sky through the mist and the fog
and I was saved only by finding this floating log."  explained Froggie

"You hear that, Ally.  We have a flying frog with us here."
said the toad as if into somebody's ear.
Froggie looked around and saw no one else there.
It appeared that this toad was talking into thin air.

"Really, it's true.  My best friend's an egret and we fly all over the bog,
but this time I fell off and that's how I ended up on your log."  explained Froggie

"If he call me a log just one more time,
I'm going to eat him, on him I will dine."  said the log?

Froggie was startled and jumped back a bit.
Toad started laughing.  He just couldn't quit.
"We really got him, Ally.  You should see the look on his face."  laughed Toad
"I wish I could.  If that were only the case."  sighed Ally

"I don't understand what's going on here?"
Froggie said as he shuddered in fear.
"Are you and the log having a discussion?
Or did I hit my head and now I have a concussion?"  asked Froggie

"You're okay, kid."  said Toad as he wiped the tears from his eyes
"Even if you do believe you fell from the skies.
I want to introduce you to Ally, my life long friend.
You've been calling her a log, but I think that should end."  said Toad

"I'm an alligator to whom life's been unkind.
For whatever reason, I was born blind.
But Toad is my eyes and he tells me all that he sees,
even when he plays a joke on an unsuspecting froggie."  explained Ally

"It's a pleasure to meet you and thank you for coming by.
If you hadn't been here, I surely could have died."  said Froggie
"Now, if you don't mind, I have a favor to ask.
I really hope it's not too much of a task."  started Froggie

"The kid just gets here and already he's asking favors.
What do you think, Ally?  Maybe, he's a chicken flavor?  laughed Toad
"Knock it off, Toad.  You're scaring the lad.
Can't you see he's missing his Mom and his Dad?"  commanded Ally

"I'm sorry there, kid.  What can we do for you?
Just think of Ally and me as a kind of canoe."  said Toad sarcastically
"I would like to go home and was hoping if you were free,
I could get a ride to my hollow log under the great willow tree?"  asked Froggie hopefully

"What do you think, Ally?  Should we give him a lift?
Maybe we should ask for a payment, a reward, or a gift?" suggested Toad
"Or maybe we could just do a good deed.
Help this little froggie out just because he's in need."  replied Ally

"You're just an old softie.  You know that don't you?
A big ferocious alligator who just doesn't have a clue."  spouted Toad
"Don't mind Toad.  He's never had a real home.
It's just been the two of us out here on our own.

He's always working up some grandiose scheme
which usually has me being scary and mean.
But deep down inside, I just don't have the heart
to do all those things and play out that part."  explained Ally

"Okay, Ally.  You've said more than enough.
I'm sure the kid's tired of hearing your guff.
So, I'm not a saint.  In that there's no crime.
I just want what's coming to me.  I just want what's mine."  croaked Toad

"I'm sorry, Mr. Toad but my Dad's not a rich man.
But I'm sure he will give you whatever he can."  replied Froggie
"Well, he better if I'm going to go this far out of my way.
Okay, Ally let's go and get this kid home sometime today."  halfheartedly said Toad

"Thank you!  Thank you!"  Froggie shouted as he gave Toad a big hug.
Toad blushed for a moment then grunted, "Get off me, you little bug."
"Come sit up here, little froggie.  You can help be my eyes.
Soon you'll be home and won't your folks be surprised."  said Ally comforting

Froggie hopped up onto Ally's head all excited
and before very long, the great willow tree had been sighted.
"There it is!"  Froggie shouted, "I can see the great willow tree.
My hollow log's just below it.  Thank you so much for helping me."  exclaimed Froggie

Just then Ally stopped swimming and let out a sigh.
"Before we go any further, I think I'm going to cry."  said Ally
"Come on, old girl.  We're just about to get paid."  said Toad
"Really, Toad.  There are far better ways for rewards to be made."  responded Ally

"Okay, Ally.  Go ahead and change the scene."  muddered Toad
"Guide us to the shore where we can't be seen."  directed Ally
"You see, I'm too big and scary and no matter what we have planned,
when they me see they'll run.  They'll all misunderstand."  Ally told Froggie

"But I'm sure my parents will want to thank you in person.
If it weren't for you, how would they get back their son?  asked Froggie
"The kid's got a point.  Maybe I should walk him home
and maybe get a little something for the kindness we've shown."  slyly said Toad

Ally let out an angry groan that was hard to ignore.
"Or maybe it would be better if we just let the kid off on the shore."  responded Toad
"Well, I'm sure going to miss you and I'll tell everyone I see
how you saved my life and how you rescued me."  sincerely said Froggie

When they reached the shore, Froggie hugged Ally and Toad.
They said their good-byes and Frogggie started off down the road.
Ally and Toad watched for awhile then slowly swam away,
disappearing in the fog as the light faded from the day.

When Froggie got home the sun had already gone down.
Everyone was at his house.  It seemed like the whole town.
They were planning their search for when the sun next came up,
when Froggie walked in the door and said, " Hey, what'sup?"

Everyone turned around and you could hear a pin drop.
"Hey!  Look!  It's Froggie!"  said Lanky, "All the searching can stop."
Then everyone hugged him and showed him how much they cared,
and Froggie told about Toad and Ally and what happened out there.

Many thought Froggie must be tired and a bit woozy
as he told stories of a toad and a gator who couldn't see.
And everyone agreed and unanimously felt
that the next he flew, he must wear a safety belt.

And later one day when Toad was looking up in the sky
something caught his attention out of the corner of his eye.
He shook his head and then told what he saw to Ally
an egret flying high and on his back was Froggie.
