A Froggie Adventure Lanky's Landing
|

Deep in the marshlands of the misty old bog
just past the willow in the hollowed out log,
there lives a young fella who's tiny and green,
the cutest little frog you ever have seen.
He's excited and waiting on this very special day
for Lanky, an egret, whos flying his way.
The day has finally come and is finally here.
It's only been a few weeks, but it feels like a year.
Now Lanky is grown and has learned how to fly
and is going to take Froggie for a ride in the sky.
"There he is!" said Molly, "Next to that cloud."
"I see him! I see him!", Froggie shouted out loud.
With elegance and grace Lanky flew in on a glide,
coming in for a landing, his wings spread out wide.
"Look out below! Get out of the way!" Lanky called out
"I sure am glad Froggie taught me to pray."
Then he stretched out his long legs and took a deep breath,
Closed his eyes, he was scared half to death.
"Flying is easy, it's the landing that's tough.
I sure hope I don't land on anything rough." thought Lanky
Then, with a bump and a role and a flip and a flop,
Lanky landed and skid and came to a stop.
Froggie and Molly ran to give him a hand.
"Can somebody help me? My beak's stuck in the sand." mumbled Lanky
With a quick little tug, Lanky let out a squeak.
"Ouch! Be careful or you'll bend my beak."
"Come on, Molly, let's pull together."
Froggie said as he grabbed a tail feather
So Molly took hold and Froggie counted one, two, three.
They gave a great pull and Lanky was free.
They all fell back and laughed for a while.
Then Lanky slowly lost his smile.
"Maybe flying's not such a great plan.
I feel a lot safer, here on dry land." said Lanky
"But you're an egret and supposed to fly.
You were meant to be way up in the sky." replied Froggie
Lanky rubbed his beak and the bump on his head.
"I think I'd rather stay down here instead." said Lanky
Froggie's head dropped down and he tried not to cry.
He had really been hoping that today he would fly.
"It's OK, Lanky. I understand.
We can fly later when you've learned how to land." sighed Froggie
"That could be a while, a day, a week, or maybe a year.
I'm really starting to like it down here." said Lanky as he looked to the sky
Molly saw that Froggie was about to start crying
and she knew that Lanky really wanted to be flying.
So she said in a voice that was loud and quite bright.
"If we work together, you two can still have your flight."
"So come on, Lanky. What do you say?
Will you give landing another try today?" asked Molly
"I guess so if you guys will give me a hand.
But I'm still kind of scared. What do you have planned?" asked Lanky
"Well, first we need to make some soft pillows." said Molly
"I bet we can use the leaves from the willow." said Froggie
"Then we'll spread them out here on the ground
and then Lanky can land on them, safe and sound." said Molly
"You two get the leaves and I'll get some sacks.
There's some at my house. I'll be right back." said Molly as she left and went home
Froggie and Lanky looked up into the tree.
There were leaves everywhere as far as they could see.
But how to get to them? Froggie thought up a scheme.
We'll have to do this together. We'll make a great team.
So Froggie climbed up on Lanky all the way to his beak
Lanky stretched out his neck until he heard it go "creek".
They tried to reach high to the leaves that hung low.
They stood as high as they could upon their tippy toes,
but Lanky started to wobble and they almost did fall.
"That didn't work. We didn't get any leaves at all." sighed Froggie
Froggie climbed down from the beak and sat on Lanky's back.
"I think we need a new plan of attack.
Maybe if you hop up and down and spread your wings in the air,
we could go higher and get to the leaves way up there." suggested Froggie
"That just might work. I'll give it my best.
But you'll have to grab the leaves and do all the rest." said Lanky
Froggie held on tight with his sticky little toes
and counted it down to ready, set, go!
They went higher and higher with each little hop
and soon they made it all the way to the top.
Now they had enough leaves to fill all the sacks.
They just had to wait for Molly to get back.
In a short time later, Molly was there.
She didn't have any sacks but she had something to share.
"We got all the leaves down from the willow
and we're ready to make a whole bunch of pillows." said Froggie
"Where are the sacks to put the leaves in?
I'm ready for my landing lesson to begin." asked Lanky
"You silly boys. Don't you know the lesson's all done?
You've already learned to land and it looks like you had fun." said Molly
"Hey! She's right!" said Froggie, "All of it's true.
You learned to land and I even flew."
"All the time you were collecting the leaves
you were just building up faith and learning how to believe." said Molly
"Now I get it. I think I understand."
I just had to believe and have faith that I could land." said Lanky
"It's like having faith in God and trusting his way.
Believing he'll take care of us each and every day." explained Froggie
We're each here for a reason and have different skills
that God has put in us according to his will.
So from now on, Lanky when you're coming in for a landing,
remember it's all part of God's special planning." said Molly
"Well my friends, this day has been great
but now it's starting to get a bit late.
You two better get started if you're going to fly.
There's a whole lot to see from way up in the sky." sighed Molly
So Froggie hopped up on Lanky's back and whispered in his ear
then turned to Molly and said, "If you're coming, you better get up here."
"You mean it!" Molly said as she climbed up on board
"Just to be safe, we better say a prayer to the Lord."
"Thank you, God for this wonderful day
and helping Lanky learn to land in your perfect way.
Take care of us now as we take out first flight
and to always remember to keep you in our sight." prayed Froggie
Then Lanky spread out his wings and started to fly
with Froggie and Molly way up in the sky.
Who knows where they'll go or what things they will see,
a young egret, a mouse, and a frog named Froggie.
