FROGGIE By Ron Berry
Deep in the marshlands of the misty old bog,
just past the willow in the hollowed out log,
There lives a young fella who's tiny and green,
the cutest little frog you ever have seen.
He is tiny and green and his toes are all sticky.
This helps him to cling to things that are tricky.
One day Froggie was out and about
when he heard a lot of flapping and then a loud shout.
He hopped and he climbed to the top of the reeds,
there he saw a young egret stuck up to his knees.
Hello. I'm Froggie. Are you OK?
"Nope!" Said the egret. I'm Lanky and I'm sinking and very afraid.
I was trying fly but fell here with a thud.
Now I'm stuck to my knees in this yucky old mud.
Could you please help me out. I can't last much longer."
"You can't mean me. You need someone much stronger." replied
Froggie
"Please do something, you're my only hope." pleaded Lanky.
"I know what I'll do. I'll get you a rope." said Froggie.
So Froggie leaped from the reed and hopped to the house
of his very good friend, Molly the mouse.
"Molly, Molly you must come quick." called Froggie
"Why?" Molly asked, "Is somebody sick?"
"No, but an egret's in really big trouble
and I need you and a rope, now on the double." commanded
Froggie.
So as fast as they could, they ran all the way,
when they got back, Lanky had sunk up to half way.
"Hurry, oh hurry, I'm down to my belly,
and Oooooo this mud's cold, yucky and smelly." whined Lanky.
They tied the rope around Lanky's head
then pulled and tugged till their faces turned red.
"It's no use. He hasn't moved at all.
We're not strong enough. We're just too small." sighed Molly
"There must be something else we can try." Lanky said as he
started to cry.
"I didn't mean to get stuck. I just wanted to fly."
"Don't worry, Lanky, we'll get you out.
There must be something we haven't thought about." said Molly
"My parents would say it's time to pray.
Rely on God to save the day." said Froggie
"That's a great idea, but what do we do?
I've never prayed before, how about you?" asked Molly
"Nope, not me." Lanky said
as he shrugged his shoulders and shook his head.
"It's very easy, not hard to do.
It's like talking to a friend right next to you." explained Froggie.
"But what if I don't know what to say?
Will I still be able to pray?" asked Lanky
"When praying to God, you'll always find,
He knows the stuff that's on your mind.
He knows the feelings deep in your heart
and He wants to help you with the hurting part.
And someone else can pray for you,
if you want and ask them to." explained Froggie
"Will you pray for me little frog
and ask God to help me out of this bog?" asked Lanky
"God, this is Froggie. Please help Lanky. He's in an awful way
or else he won't make it through the rest of the day." prayed
Froggie
"It didn't work! I'm still sinking.
You have to pray louder. That's what I'm thinking." cried Lanky
"He's up to his neck, his eyes full of fright.
Come on, Molly. Pull! Pull with all of your might." shouted Froggie
They pulled and they pulled hard on the rope
but Lanky kept sinking and losing his hope.
"We've done all we can, we'll just have to rely
On God to save Lanky so he can learn how to fly." said Froggie
Then from the bushes, Bunny hopped out.
"What's all the noise and fussing about?" asked Bunny
"Bunny! Grab hold of the rope and pull on the line.
Don't worry, Lanky. You're going tol be fine." said Froggie
So they pulled and pulled as hard as they could,
until they heard Lanky say,"That's good, that's good."
"What's that you have tied to the end of this string?
It sure is a goofy funny looking thing." asked Bunny
"That's Lanky, an egret. He's been stuck in the mud.
Now it's time for bath and a good soak in the tub." explained Molly
"Thank you my friends, you saved me today.
You even taught me how to pray.
There must be something I can do for you?
Just let me know what you want me to do." asked Lanky
Froggie hopped on to Lanky's leg and said in a wise crack,
"When you learn to fly, maybe I can ride on your back."
And a few weeks later when Lanky was grown,
together they flew to adventures unknown.
